#1 INTRODUCTION

#1 INTRODUCTION

Hello! My name is Anna Shults. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri but currently reside in Lake Ozark, Missouri. Growing up at the Lake I have been exposed to many creative fields since the lake is such a creative playground in the world of real estate. I have been truly blessed to grow up in such a unique place. I was given many opportunities to not only improve myself but also make amazing connections!

I chose Interior Design because of my love to create and design. Since I was young, I always enjoyed crafts and getting to be experimental with art. Then I shifted into rearranging my room and begging my parents to let me paint my room. Every few weeks I would decide that my room needed to be moved around and I would stay up all night to complete it. I became interesting in going into Interior Design and was blessed enough to get to shadow a local designer in the area. This is where my love for the profession began.

If you would have asked me a few years ago what I wanted to do with this degree you would have gotten an array of answers mainly because I had no clue. After experiencing the design program over the past few years, I can tell you that I want to design for people, I may shift from my area of design however my goal will to always be personable. It's the best part of design is getting to impact people's lives in a positive way.

I have taken an online course before, because of COVID this was something that I had to shift into since it's not my favorite form of learning, however, I have learned and grown to appreciate it. I will be successful in this class by staying organized and taking good notes, this is how I have learned to flourish in courses is when I diligently take notes of my learnings.

  2. Hi Anna! I really like the images you included in your blog. I also got started in interior design because I loved doing arts and crafts as a kid. I wanted a career where I could use my creativity. I also agree that the personal aspect of the job seems most appealing to me. I want to get to know my future clients to create a design they will love. Great job!

#3 PRODUCT SELECTION CRITERIA

Product Selection Criteria  Product Selection is critical to the success of a design, this is why as interior designers it is important for us to be knowledgeable about products. For this project I decided to make the criteria list about the 1500 sq ft space that I will be designing for the project in the class. I have decided to do a 1500 sq ft restaurant. The first criteria are that the products have durability, it needs to be designed for high-traffic and heavy use environments. In a restaurant the space will constantly be exposed to cleaning products, lots of visitors, and possible spills of food or beverages. The materials need to be resistant to impact, scratches, dents, and wear. This doesn't mean that the products will be perfect however they need to be heavy-duty. They also need to be rated for commercial use meaning that they have NSF and ANSI ratings.  They also need to meet safety and code requirements, this is nonnegotiable. If the needs are not met the spa...

#2 LEED and LEED GREEN ASSOCIATE

 # 2  LEED and LEED Green Associate       LEED is the most widely recognized green building rating system in the world. LEED certifications offer a structure for healthy, efficient, and cost-effective green buildings. They provide environmental and social benefits; it helps to serve a globally recognized symbol of sustainable leadership. LEED is for all different project types and phases, this includes new construction, core and shell, interior fit-outs, operations and maintenance. LEED as a whole address everything from energy and water use to materials and managing waste.      There are many different rankings; to  achieve LEED certification, a project must first complete all prerequisites. Then they must earn points by selecting and satisfying credit requirements. Projects go through a verification and review process by GBCI and are awarded points that correspond to a level of LEED certification: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum. ...

#7 FIBER TESTING AND PROPERTIES

FIBER TESTING AND PROPERTIES  Fiber testing and material properties is essential in the textile and interior design industries. Fiber performance affects durability, comfort, cost, and sustainability. Through reviewing selected videos on cotton testing, long staple cotton, rayon production, and technical polyester, I gained a deeper understanding of how fibers are evaluated and engineered for specific uses.  The cotton testing video provided an understanding into the scientific methods used to evaluate cotton quality before it enters textile production. A primary instrument discussed was the High-Volume Instrument, which measures multiple fiber characteristics quickly and accurately. These characteristics include fiber length, strength, micronaire, uniformity, and color grade. One of the most important takeaways was the significance of fiber length and strength. Longer fibers create smoother yarns because they twist together more securely, resulting in fewer protruding ends...
