SUMMARY Throughout this course, I have learned a significant amount about materials and their role in design, especially through developing a deeper understanding of product knowledge and specifications. At the beginning, there were many aspects of textiles and upholstery that I did not fully understand, but over time I was able to build a stronger foundation. I now have a clearer understanding of how different materials are constructed, how they perform, and why they are selected for specific applications. This knowledge has helped me see design not just from an aesthetic perspective, but also from a functional and technical standpoint. One of the most valuable things I learned was the difference between natural and synthetic fibers and how each type impacts durability, maintenance, comfort, and cost.
